At JFK Medical Center, our highly respected breast surgeons provide expert care using the most minimally invasive and advanced treatments possible. We treat each person as an individual, and each diagnosis as unique, when surgically treating breast disease and conditions.

Surgical procedures on the breast that are performed at JFK Medical Center include:

  • Breast conservation therapy
  • Genetic counseling
  • In-office biopsies
  • Screenings
  • Benign breast disease
  • Breast cancer
  • Breast reconstruction
  • Cosmetic breast surgery

JFK breast surgeons offer breast conservation, skin and nipple sparing mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, counseling on genetic mutations related to breast cancer, high risk screening and follow-up for breast cancer. They are  equipped to perform ultrasound guided core biopsies right in the office – no need for a separate visit. Our surgeons work in close partnership with the JFK Breast Center, coordinating procedures such as stereotactic core biopsies.

Our goal is to provide you with the best in breast care, the best clinical outcome and the highest quality of life post-surgery. We specialize in minimally invasive procedures and the newest treatments, such as nipple-sparing mastectomy.

The daVinci XI™ Surgical System

JFK is pleased to announce the daVinci XI Surgical System. This is the most advanced robotic, computer and optical technology designed with the goal of further advancing minimally invasive surgery. The Robot can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery.

JFK surgeons are 100% in control of the robotic-assisted System as it translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The Xi System’s immersive 3D-HD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient.

What is da Vinci Surgery and how can it help me?

Michael Lasser, M.D.
Medical Director, Robotic Surgery

da Vinci Surgery is a less invasive technique than what is referred to as “open” surgery. With da Vinci Surgery, the cuts (incisions) made in your body by your surgeon are much smaller than the cut made during open surgery. da Vinci Surgery is therefore considered “minimally invasive surgery.” Studies of da Vinci Surgery have shown the following benefits in comparison to open surgery:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Less need for narcotic pain medicine
  • A faster recovery
  • Smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring

Since its introduction, da Vinci Surgery has greatly reduced the number of open surgeries for common operations (such as hysterectomy12 and prostatectomy13). Thanks to da Vinci technology, more patients have been offered minimally invasive surgery (MIS) than at any other time in history.
