JFK Medical Center Earns the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer
JFK Medical Center was recently awarded the 2016 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). JFK Medical Center is one of a select group of 20 U.S. accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for surveys performed January 1 – June 30, 2016.
The purpose of the award is to encourage cancer programs to raise the bar on quality cancer care, with the ultimate goal of increasing awareness about high quality, patient-centered care. In addition, the award is intended to:
- Recognize those cancer programs that achieve excellence meeting the CoC Standards
- Motivate other cancer programs to work toward improving their level of quality cancer care
- Facilitate dialogue between award recipients and health care professionals at other cancer facilities for the purpose of sharing best practices
- Encourage honorees to serve as quality-care resources to other cancer programs
JFK’s cancer program was evaluated on 34 program standards categorized within five cancer program activity areas: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, patient outcomes, and data quality. The cancer program was further evaluated on seven commendation standards. To be eligible, all award recipients must have received commendation ratings in all seven commendation standards, in addition to receiving a compliance rating for each of the 27 other standards.
JFK Medical Center, an affiliate of JFK Health, is a 498-bed full-service, acute care hospital, and the adjacent JFK Johnson Rehabilitative Institute. Located in the heart of Edison, NJ, it has remained at the forefront of quality care in the region since its inception in 1967. Today, JFK accommodates more than 20,000 admissions, 3,000 births and 60,000 Emergency Room visits on a yearly basis. The Medical Center features a complete array of services, including oncology, general surgery, emergency medicine, mental health, orthopedics, maternity and pediatric care. It is home to two world renowned institutes: the JFK Neuroscience Institute and the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute, as well as JFK Haven Hospice, JFK Imaging Center and the Center for Wound Healing.
JFK Medical Center is proud to be rated the #1 stroke program in New Jersey and in the top 5% in the entire country. With a Gold Plus award for stroke care by the American Heart Association and a comprehensive and primary stroke center designation, our neuroscience program is unmatched with both neurological and rehabilitation services.
