Neonates to adults, who suffer from breathing abnormalities, benefit from life support services and state-of-the art ventilation equipment provided by the Respiratory Therapy Department. Its licensed respiratory therapists assist in the diagnosis, treatment, management and preventive care of patients diagnosed with chronic lung conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema, as well as heart disease and cystic fibrosis; and they provide a referral service for respiratory home care equipment. In addition, the therapists perform arterial blood gas punctures to determine blood oxygen levels and place breathing tubes in lungs in emergency situations, among other duties.
