Haven Hospice

Caring for the Terminally Ill
and their Families

Haven Hospice is a program for patients and their families who are coping with a terminal illness. People turn to hospice care when more aggressive medical treatment is no longer available or desirable. Services are custom-designed to support each family's unique needs, with an emphasis on offering individuals choice, dignity and respect.

Hospice care is provided by an experienced, interdisciplinary team led by a board-certified physician who supervises all medical care.
Working together to ensure the best course of treatment for patients, the team consists of:
  • Physicians with access to the latest medical treatments, advances in pain- and symptom-management, as well as drug therapies;
  • Registered Nurses and Nurses Aides who are specially skilled in caring for the terminally ill;
  • Counselors who address a full range of psychosocial needs from diagnosis through bereavement;
  • Clergy who support all faiths;
  • Physical, Occupational, Speech and Nutritional Therapists; and
  • Trained Volunteers who provide support and practical assistance to patients and families.

    Inpatient Care services are also available at JFK Medical Center in the Mary Anne Hale Pavilion, a home-like inpatient unit. The beautiful facility features five home-like private rooms, a library, meditation room, entertainment center, patio garden, nutritional center, and children's play therapy area.

    The Haven Hospice Children's Program is uniquely focused to serve the emotional needs of children -- ages three to 21 -- who are preparing for or grieving the loss of a loved one. The Children's Program accomplishes its mission through a continuum of specialized services, led by an experienced and dedicated team of licensed professionals and specially trained volunteers. Programs include Coping With Illness; the Children's Bereavement Program; "Hugs and Bugs," a yearly camp retreat; and the Children's Memorial Service.

    Medicare, Medicaid and a growing number of private insurance plans cover some portion of hospice care. Additionally, funds are available to patients without income or insurance. No one is denied services because of inability to pay.
