Benefiting JFK Brain Tumor Center

Flo’s Annual Chili Cook-Off benefiting the Brain Tumor Center at the JFK Neuroscience Institute (Edison, NJ), will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey.  This important benefit is to honor our loving friend, sister and mother, Flo Tempalski.

Flo was diagnosed with Glioblastoma  Multiforme, a grade IV brain tumor on October 31, 2006 and passed on October 7, 2007.  Flo was 51 years of age with two children and three grandchildren.  She was a loving part of our life, our sister and my best friend.

On October 15th at the 2nd Annual Flo’s Chili Cook-Off we will honor Flo by keeping her memory alive with a joyful celebration of her life.  All donations and proceeds will benefit the JFK Brain Tumor Center, a comprehensive program for diagnosis, treatment, and management of brain and spinal tumors.

Flo’s experience with the disease was more than courageous – she sustained four major brain surgeries, and two dual spinal infections within six months of her diagnosis.  She never let the disease stop her, her commitment and dedication to her family, friends and community persisted regardless of her illness.  Never complaining about her illness or the complications associated with it – Flo always stayed positive.  Flo’s grace, dignity, courage and love carried family and friends through the most difficult times of her illness.  She was so special – Flo touched the life of everyone who knew her.  Through events, like the Chili Cook-Off, we want to keep Flo’s loving and giving spirit alive by raising funds to support education and patient-related services at the JFK Brain Tumor Center.   To learn more about Flo please visit: http://www.tempalski.com/flo.html

Last year Flo’s Chili Cook-Off raised over $8,000 in one day.  This year our goal is to raise $15,000 to benefit the Brain Tumor Center’s programs and services for patients and families.   The day-long event includes live entertainment, a special kid’s tent, arts and crafts fair, eco–friendly products, local produce, a Chinese auction and some of the best chili you will ever find in New Jersey!  Doors open at 11, live music starts at 11:30, and chili sampling begins at noon.  The excitement and fun will continue throughout the day until 5 pm.  Be sure to attend the Chili Awards at 4:30.
