The JFK Johnson Rehabilitaion Institute (JRI) and the JFK Hartwyck at Oak Tree Center for Head Injuries have been internationally recognized by the scientific community, patients and their families for their groundbreaking work in Deep Brain Stimulation. Together, along with a team of renowned medical professionals, they brought a patient back from a coma-like state, rewriting our understanding of consciousness.
REAWAKENING THE DORMANT MIND
After a savage beating left him with severe brain injuries, a 31-year-old man spent six years in a twilight state. Then, a gentle current of electricity delivered by an implanted deep-brain stimulator (DBS) brought him back to life.
