HBO Documentary: Coma

Edison, NJ—Recognized as one of the nation's leaders in the treatment of brain trauma injuries, the Center for Head Injuries at JFK Medical Center serves as the prime location and medical resource for the upcoming HBO documentary, "COMA," due to debut on Tuesday, July 3rd at 9:00 p.m., on HBO.

Throughout the course of one year, the Center for Head Injuries at JFK Medical Center allowed unprecedented access to the HBO team in order to help educate the public on coma and related disorders of consciousness as well as the treatment options available to patients with these conditions. Diving into questions of treatment, progress and hope, the documentary tells the stories of the unimaginable courage demonstrated by family members as they cope with the emotional tribulations caused by the sudden impact of severe brain injury.

"This documentary highlights both the bravery of the patients and their families as well as the incredible depth of knowledge and compassion delivered by the entire medical team", says Dr. Thomas Strax, Vice President and Medical Director, JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute.

Medical Director of the Center for Head Injuries, Dr. Caroline McCagg, and renowned JFK Neuropsychologist, Dr. Joseph Giacino, served as medical consultants on the documentary. COMA shadows Dr. McCagg and Dr. Giacino and illustrates the superior medical treatment provided in an environment filled with both joy and sorrow.

Academy Award-nominated Liz Garbus produced and directed "COMA."
