Auxiliary

Supporting the Medical Center Through Service and Fundraising

The Auxiliary of the JFK Medical Center Foundation is dedicated to providing volunteer service to the Medical Center and its patients, conducting fundraising and sponsoring programs that promote health and wellness throughout the community.

WHO WE ARE
The membership of the Auxiliary of the JFK Medical Center Foundation is made up of men and women who range in age from 18 to over 80 years of age. A variety of careers and professions are represented by the more than the 400 Auxilians who live and work in the communities served by JFK Medical Center, including Edison, Metuchen, Woodbridge and the adjacent region.

The Auxiliary was founded in 1962, five years before the original 205-bed John F. Kennedy Community Hospital opened its doors. As the hospital grew and expanded, it benefited greatly from the Auxilians' many fundraising and service activities. And, today, the Auxiliary serves as the major fundraising arm of the JFK Medical Center Foundation.

WHAT WE DO
JFK Auxiliary members dedicate their time and talents to make a difference for the community, funding vital health care services and projects at JFK Medical Center. The Auxiliary's voluntary members continually develop and staff health-related programs for the Medical Center, its affiliates and the community.

The Auxiliary is proud to have fulfilled pledges made to the Foundation, and has raised more than $10 million. Monies pledged by the Auxiliary have funded the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment and upgrade of specialized services and departments/units throughout the Medical Center. Some of these purchases have included a state-of-the-art bone densitometer, a ventilator system for the Respiratory Therapy Department, new technologically advanced monitors for the Stroke and Endoscopy units, and the JFK Auxiliary Patient Access Center.

Funds raised by the Auxiliary are generated from a variety of activities, including the Annual Ball, Baby Alumni and Baby Photo services, the JFK Coffee and Gift Shops, select projects of the various Twigs (branches of the Auxiliary), the hospital television service and special events sponsored throughout the year.

In addition, Auxiliary members provide many health-related services for patients and the community. They include TUFF (Team Up For Fitness), a health and fitness education program for 8th grade students entitled and New Jersey's largest "Talking Books" program; and GAP, the "Geriatric Aid Program," which provides companionship and assistance to JFK patients who are 80 years of age and older. The Auxiliary also funds a scholarship program for college students interested in pursuing health-related disciplines and merit awards for high school students excelling in the sciences.

As well as staffing Auxiliary-sponsored services and programs, many Auxilians participate in other volunteer opportunities at JFK and its affiliated nursing homes.
